A Rant on my profession!!

Something has really been bothering me lately about the chiropractic profession. I believe that the "practice management" companies are what is wrong with our profession. There are so many doctors out there so worried about the all mighty dollar that they sign up with these people to increase profits. What these companies do is teach these doctors all the right things to say to a patient to get them to spend a bunch of money in their office on care they probably don't need. They over treat, over bill and use scare tactics to get the patient to conform. I wish the leaders of our profession like the ACA, ICA, FCER, the colleges and the state boards would investigate these companies and their tactics.

What a practice management company should do is help the doctor be a better clinician, diagnostician, adjuster etc. Basically help the doctor be a better doctor. Keep them from over utilizing, help doctors with proper documentation and case management.

This is what will change the profession for the better. Help us to be looked at as equals with the medical community and unlock doors for our two professions to work together for the good of the patient.

I doubt anyone will read this but if you do I would love to know what you think.

An "AAWWW" Moment

I had an "aaawww" moment with my 3 year old son tonight. He had gotten in trouble earlier in the night and was sent to his room. Later, I was laying in bed watching TV and he came in and said "Daddy, can I lay wif you?". So he climbs up in bed and puts his head on my chest and proceeds to fall fast asleep. So I'm laying there with my head all jacked to one side so I can still the TV but I can't bring myself to move him. I mean, the last time my son fell asleep on my chest was probably before he could walk. So I just stayed there getting a kink in my neck enjoying every second of it.

The good news is I can go to work tomorrow and have the other doctor in my office adjust my neck and it'll be fine.

A little about what I do...

Ok, so most people when they hear the word "chiropractor" all they think is "crackin' bones". What we do is much more than that.

Simply put, we help the body help itself. By aligning a persons spine a patient's nervous system and spinal joints function better, allowing your entire body to function better. It is VERY safe and painless. I have treated my own son when he was just 1 hour old all the way to a 91 year old osteoporotic woman.

I know this probably sounds preachy but I get frustrated about the current state of our health care. I think chiropractic care is the most underutilized and unappreciated form of health care in the country. The bottom line is chirpractic care works without side effects and without the risks of living on prescriptions (I'll save the drug talk for another post). Try it you'll see.
Everyday at work I see hard working people come in with high deductibles and high copays. Some people have come in with copays so high that my office visit fee is less than their copay. Someone in congress or in the white house needs to step in a put a stop to this. After George Bush's poor excuse for a Medicare prescription program I know we will have to wait at least 2 more years before something will be done. It will be a very tough hurdle with big pharma and the insurance industry's deep pockets but something must be done before noone can afford insurance.
Until next time...

Viva La Mexico

We went to Mexico last October for our 10 year anniversary. All I can say is VIVA LA MEXICO!! We left the kids with grandma so we were free for a week. We stayed in the Riviera Maya area at the El Dorado Royal. It was all inclusive so we had everything at our disposal. What a beautiful place!! I wish I could go back yesterday. Great food, great drinks. We were drinking by 10 am almost everyday, layed by the pool and on the beach. We will definately be going back ASAP. It was by far the most relaxing experience I've ever had.

My first attempt at blogging

Well I have finally got around to giving this blogging thing a try. I don't know if anyone will think my life is all that interesting but you never know. In posts to follow I plan on discussing aspects of my life...kids, job, wife etc.

I am a chiropractor from Omaha, Nebraska. I'm 32 years old and have been married for 10 years. I have 2 kids, a girl 7 and a boy 3.
